Interview Process!

So I am going through my first Academic librarian position process. I applied for the Information Services Librarian position. I had my phone interview which went ok.... not great :) as I am afraid of phones and I know I was flustered and could have answered better, but I think it went well. Now my on campus interview went much better! I created a LibGuide and presented on that, the Dean of Business and Technology was there and was impressed with the LibGuide :) I made it through the hour interview with the Committee members. I feel that I answered well and asked questions that really helped understand the job and university a bit more. Now the interview with main director was very nice! :) The interview was ITV'd, the director came on, he asked me if I had any questions. I asked, and we chatted for 10 minutes and it was over!. And now the waiting!...hopefully I hear something soon. *fingers crossed*

Cell Biology students are tough!!

So today I was let loose to teach most of the BI by myself, with the other librarian(s) only covering a small portion. I had two Cell Biology classes today, and I have survived and getting better :) The morning class, I forgot to cover a lot of things so the session was much shorter. But the evening class was longer. I remembered more things, and the information stayed in my head :) Tom Rink was right, the more practice you get the better you'll be. I am not as nervous as I used to be. Though for the morning one, a coworker and I did have to turn some mortal kombat music on and dance (thats what relaxes me) and then we went for a walk outside.

But overall, I am satisfied with the sessions and how far I have come from when I first started having to teach instructional classes.

I Am Remembered :)

So I had an older gentleman come to my office today asking for help. He said he remembered me from a BI instructional I had taught and wanted me to help him with his research. He was doing a paper on diversity in the workforce and wanted to know what databases to use, and how to get the citations from the articles he finds. I had him log in on a computer and took him to our library home page and from there showed him the best databases to use in which he might get something on his topic. I also had him create an Ebsco account so he could save his articles and get to them from work, since it did not seem like he was going to stay long and I did not want him to lose his work. I also provided him with some different options on how to save/copy his citations to a reference page.

It was nice to be approached by someone that remembered me :) And he had written my name and contact information down! [so i know he was legit]heh. Before he left, I gave him my business card and let him know he could contact me any time he needed help.

Thank you sir for cheering me up! :)

I was helpful!

So I just got a call from a student that was having a hard time finding a full-text article about deer population control; she said she had been trying for some time and was not able to find anything. So I did the search with her (me on my end and her on hers) and I was able to walk her through steps on which databases to use and how to get to the articles, We found some that were helpful to her!! :D It felt really good...because she called and I could tell she was frustrated even though she was trying to be nice and control herself. It is moments like this that makes all the sleepless nights and information overload from classes worth it :) because soon this is what I will get to do on a daily basis.

Faculty/Staff Meeting!!

So my life long dream of sitting around a meeting table, drinking coffee, saying 'good good' has been accomplished!! heh, ok so its not that dramatic :) Today we had our faculty/staff meeting and it is always surreal to be part of one for me. I never imagined that I would finally get this far! Participating in budget meetings and planning company events! And yet that is what I did today. The library here at NSU-BA is going to have a thanksgiving potluck lunch and THEN a christmas secret santa/desert potluck. *sigh* The holidays are good.

Another Teaching Session!

I do believe I am getting better and more confident with my instructional sessions. Today I had another session I co-taught with for a Reading class. They were future teachers or maybe even librarians who would be in charge of buying class books and building the library collection. The librarian I co-taught with covered the TitleWave database and I covered on how to find books in our catalog and how to request them through ILL if needed.

Copy Cataloging and Class!

So yesterday, 10-28-2013, was a busy but fun day. I started the day off with training from a librarian that came down from Tahlequah. She trained me on doing copy cataloging using OCLC Connexion. That was fun and will help me develop more experience so hopefully I will have a better chance of finding a cataloging/acquisitions position when I am done with school.

Later in the evening, Dr. Louderback, library director, asked me if I wanted to help her with an instructional session for Organizational Leadership students. I feel that this time, the session went much better than last time. They could tell I was nervous, but I feel that I handled it much better than before. I went over the basic book searches from our library catalog, how to request items through ILL, and provided them with citing sources and information about our Writing Center.
